Founded in August 2000 by Choreographer Akram Khan and Producer Farooq Chaudhry, Akram Khan Company has established itself as one of the foremost innovative dance companies, performing to sell-out audiences in leading festivals and venues around the world.
Embracing an artistic principal that both respects and challenges tradition and modernity, the Company has become renowned for its intercultural, interdisciplinary productions, ranging from solo and duet work to ensemble pieces.
As a virtuosic kathak dancer, Khan’s distinct contemporary style is influenced by this classical Indian dance form. His collaborators include Oscar-winning actress Juliette Binoche In-I, 2008; the National Ballet of China bahok, 2008; dancers Sylvie Guillem Sacred Monsters, 2006 and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui zero degrees, 2005, writer Hanif Kureishi ma, 2004; visual artists Anish Kapoor and Antony Gormley, and composers Steve Reich, Nitin Sawnhey and Philip Sheppard. Khan was awarded an MBE for his services to Dance in 2005.
