The BDE 2010 Research Project

The BDE 2010 Research Project

  1. 5th February, 16:00 — 18:30

Birmingham Repertory Theatre & The Door

Please note that this event takes place in The Door, Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s studio space.

The BDE Research Project (BDERP, or Dragon’s Den of Dance as it’s commonly referred to) is an opportunity for a selected group of UK-based dance artists or companies to pitch research ideas to a panel of producers at a special BDE event. The outcome of the BDERP will be a unique group of producers coming together to fund several innovative research projects that will be shared with the dance industry following BDE 2010.

Aims and Objectives of BDERP

- To make possible several choreographic research projects that nurture experimentation in dance performance

- To address a perceived lack of risk taking amongst choreographers in Britain because many artists are focussed on developing touring frameworks for the distribution of their artistic work

- To develop artistic practice and grow ambition amongst dance artists

- To highlight the research work taking place, by the very fact that a wide group of dance organisations are investing in it – in effect, bringing profile to it

- To bring together a wide range of dance organisations/individuals that have a wealth of knowledge, in the pursuit of artistic excellence

BDE 2010 has brought together a number of key UK dance organisations, who have pooled resources and funding to create the right conditions for a number of choreographic research projects which address identified needs of the current UK dance sector. These organisations form the The Producing Partnership for BDERP. Depending on the level of investment, members of the Producing Partnership are either Main contributors or Secondary Contributors.

The Main Contributors are:
Birmingham Hippodrome, DanceXchange, New Moves International, The Place, Woking Dance Festival

Secondary Contributors are:
Aerowaves, Dance 4, Dance Base, Dance Digital, Dance East, Glasgow Dance House, Dance Umbrella, Deda, Dublin Dance Festival, East London Dance, Greenwich Dance Agency, The Lowry, Merseyside Dance Network, Sadlers Wells, South East Dance, Yorkshire Dance
