VARMINTS Work in development
A conversation with Kenrick Sandy and Mikey ‘J’ Asante (co-directors of Olivier Award winning Boy Blue Entertainment), about a new hip hop dance theatre show for 8yrs+, based on the book published by Templar written by Helen Ward and Marc Craste.
At BDE 2008 Emma Gladstone and Kiki Gale (of East London Dance), discussed the need for well produced dance work for young audiences. As Boy Blue Entertainment and East London Dance have a long working relationship, and had performed regularly at Sadler’s Wells, they linked up with the company (and Clare Connor of Stratford Circus) to discuss ideas. The result is Varmints, touring from spring 2011 to studio theatres. A short film will be shown of the 2008 research undertaken. followed by a discussion and presentation of the proposed storyboard, music and design.
For more information about Varmints development and touring plans please email Kiki Gale or call her on + 44 (0)20 8279 1050.
MAKING MISCHIEF Finished work
A presentation by Sue Buckmaster, Artistic Director of Theatre-Rites.
Can theatre and dance collaborate to create non-classical, non-adaptation based work that is innovative, fun, and for family audiences? The answer is yes. Commissioned by Sadler’s Wells and the Dance Touring Partnership, Mischief saw Theatre-Rites collaborate with Arthur Pita to create an award-winning family show. After two successful tours it is clear there is a growing audience, and the plan is to tour again in 2011 or 2012. This presentation will look at the key factors relating to its success: the right partners and collaborators; appropriate development; a uniting language; production standards; knowing and never patronising the audience and of course, funding.
