James Rowbotham is a stills photographer specialising in the photography of dance.
In spring 2008 James joined a workshop at the Louise Greenfield studios in New York, working with members of Amy Marshall Dance Company, specialising in the freezing of motion. Since then he has built a diverse portfolio of dance photography in a variety of locations: large and small theatres, dance studios, on location and in photographic studios.
In addition to working with a large number of individual dancers, James has also worked with dance companies. In October 2009 he worked with both the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and Danza Contemporanea. Most recently he photographed members of Candoco Dance Company still at the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury.
James was also invited to exhibit a selection of work at the Point Theatre in Eastleigh between 2008/9. He continues to work with dance companies such as New English Contemporary Ballet, with theatres and with individual dancers. In addition he runs workshops in studio dance photography at the Cheltenham Film and Photographic studios.
