Since registration opened, a number of events have been added to the BDE programme. These include morning class, film screenings, city walking tours, as well as debates and performance events. Here’s a summary of all the extras, with links to more information, so you can see what’s available to sign up for when you arrive in Birmingham.

TO SIGN UP FOR ANY OF THESE EVENTS, COME TO THE BDE HUB AT STAGESIDE ON ARRIVAL, OR DURING YOUR STAY.

First up, it’s a chance to hear about some fantastic British Initiatives in Dance at the DanceXchange Profile Event. On Thursday 4th Feb (09.30-10.30), this event is an opportunity to hear about some of the fantastic projects DanceXchange is involved with. There’s also an exclusive performance by West Midlands based youth dance company Being Frank.

Next we have a debate sponsored by the Dance Consortium – In Britain today, are we bringing the best dance work to audiences in middle and large scale theatres?, also on Thursday from 16.00 until 17.30. Speakers include Tim Brinkman (Hall for Cornwall), Stuart Griffiths (Birmingham Hippodrome), Alan Rivett (Warwick Arts Centre), Jan Ryan (UK Arts International), Charles Santos (TITAS).

We’ve also confirmed another debate with a fantastic line-up of speakers – A New Diversity? An NDN Debate on Diversity in UK Dance, scheduled for Saturday 6th February in The BDE Hub at StageSide (09.30-11.00). Panel members include Alistair Spalding (Sadler’s Wells), Jonzi D (Breakin Convention), Caroline Bowditch (Scottish Dance Theatre), and Stefan Schwarz (Head of Programming, Tanzhaus NRW).

Aside from debates, we have a new performance event confirmed for the Hippodrome Foyer areas on Saturday 6th February between 18.30 and 20.00. STRIDE! – a Greater Manchester young men’s dance project for 11-19yrs – will present its new sited performance inspired by Company Chameleon’s Rites for your enjoyment. Refreshments will be served.
