Acclaimed at its opening in 1834 as the finest music hall in the country, this Grade 1 listed Birmingham landmark was re-opened in October 2007 following a £35 million renovation.

The Town Hall and Symphony Hall programmes are planned to complement each other, and with Town Hall seating capacity being half the size of Symphony Hall, the two halls are ideally positioned to present a broad and comprehensive programme of music, dance, comedy, spoken word and civic and community events. The halls are operated together by Performances Birmingham Ltd, an independent charitable trust primarily funded by Birmingham City Council.

The re-opening of Town Hall has allowed the development of new programming including a world music strand, a monthly Saturday morning family series, lunchtime chamber music concerts, and contemporary events. The venue’s community remit means there’s also a considerable programme of local hires alongside the arts programme. In 2008, Town Hall played host to several dance performances as part of the first International Dance Festival Birmingham.

Central to the artistic and educational work of Town Hall are the Associate Artists: BBC Big Band, Black Voices, Ex Cathedra, Orchestra of the Swan, Soweto Kinch, and Thomas Trotter. The intention has been to create long-term and sustainable relationships that enhance the brands of all parties, through collaborative artistic programming, education work and audience development. Since re-opening, Town Hall has also hosted a wide variety of corporate and exhibition events, and has quickly established itself as a popular city-centre venue of choice.
